Teeth that are weak, damaged or severely misshapen or discolored may benefit from dental crowns. Dr. Gauthier uses only the best materials to create natural looking dental crowns that are virtually indistinguishable from your natural teeth.
A dental crown is a customized “cap” that is placed over the tooth to restore its strength and improve its appearance. The latest dental materials practically eliminate the need for the use of metal in dental crowns which can discolor the teeth and cause discomfort. Dr. Gauthier’s use of modern, high quality materials and CEREC technology ensures that your smile will have the look and feel of your natural teeth.
Dental Crowns for Cosmetic Issues
Not only are dental crowns used to restore teeth, but they are also used to improve the appearance of teeth. With the use of high quality materials and CEREC technology, a tooth crown will look just like the rest of your natural teeth and will blend in with the rest of your smile. They have the ability to hide any tooth imperfection since they encase the entire tooth.
People who have yellow, discolored or stained teeth may have tried professional teeth whitening with no luck. Dental crowns are a great alternative solution to instantly brighten your teeth. They can close the gap in between teeth and also correct misshapen or crooked teeth. Crowns do cost more than teeth whitening but are still a cost effective solution to hide cosmetic concerns. Lots of our patients choose crowns instead of porcelain veneers because of how affordable they are.

Dental Crowns What to Expect
Dr. Gauthier is the first and only dentist in Northborough to have CEREC technology for same day dental crowns. CEREC uses advanced CAD/CAM technology to produce indirect ceramic restorations (Crowns, Caps, Inlays, Onlays and Veneers) in a single visit. Traditional dental crown procedures require two or three visits over several weeks and often involve uncomfortable preparation and temporary tooth caps. With the CEREC system, teeth can be restored in a single visit.
To begin the crown process, Dr. Gauthier will prepare the tooth by using a dental drill to gently remove some of the outer surface of the tooth to create room for the tooth cap. Then a special camera takes an optical impression of the tooth, recording its exact specifications. Using the CAD/CAM software, the dental crown is digitally prepared and then sent to our in-office laboratory where the dental crown is created using the finest, tooth colored ceramic material.
When your crown is ready to be placed, Dr. Gauthier will attach the dental crown, make any necessary adjustments and bond it to the tooth then polish it. In a single one to two hour visit to our Northborough, MA dentist office, you will leave with a new tooth.
Dr. Gauthier takes a comprehensive approach to each dental procedure he performs; making sure that every patient receives the fullest functional and aesthetic benefits. You’ll leave with a healthy, beautiful and long-lasting smile. Dental crowns are highly durable as well as stain and decay resistant.
To ensure that your dental crown lasts, you should continue practicing good at home oral hygiene and visiting the dentist at least twice a year. Your Apex dentist can make personalized recommendations for improving your oral health habits to support your overall, lasting dental wellness.
Dental crowns are an effective solution for a range of dental concerns. Patients may require a dental crown to fix a cosmetic blemish such as a crack or discoloration. Dental crowns can fit to a tooth after a root canal to help stabilize the natural tooth structure. Dental crowns are also used in conjunction with a dental implant to replace a missing tooth.
DO NOT attempt to put it back on. Do not attempt to use epoxy, glue, or oral cement to reattach it. Call your dentist as soon as possible and keep the crown clean. A dental crown can fail if it was not properly placed, if it was not custom-made for your tooth, or if it experienced damage due to trauma to the mouth.
