DIAGNOdent Makes Dental Appointments Painless

Have you been avoiding going to the dentist due to the discomfort of the scraping and poking of your teeth to detect tooth decay? Thanks to a new digital technology called DIAGNOdent, the days of dreading your bi-annual dentist appointment are gone.

The DIANGNOdent is a probe which uses fluorscent light analysis to diagnosis areas of tooth decay earlier than previously used methods were capable of. The analysis from the DIAGNOdent is sent to a digital display where your dentist can immediately identify any problems. It boasts an accuracy rate of over 90 percent, which is significantly better than the 40 to 50 percent accuracy of other diagnosis methods such as X-rays. A full scan of your mouth can be completed in under five minutes. The laser rays are harmless and no protective clothing is necessary during your dental exam.

You will not experience any pain while your dentist is performing an examination with DIAGNOdent. That is because the instrument never comes into contact with your mouth, teeth or gums in an invasive way. If you have sensitive gums that were prone to bleeding when being poked or prodded, or you routinely left your dentist’s office in need of a pain reliever, you will no longer have to be concerned with that.

The DIAGNOdent is able to detect tooth decay in areas that were very difficult previously, especially between the teeth. Although the widespread use of fluoride has reduced the number of cavities between the teeth, they still appear in what is known as the pits and valleys of your teeth. These are areas that were not easily seen from the side view tradionally used by dental X-rays in the past.

The DIAGNOdent has not yet replaced X-rays, but rather works in partnership with them to find tooth decay not visible to the naked eye. Each has their own unique strengths with the X-ray being proficient at finding decay between teeth and on the roots and the DIAGNOdent proficient at locating decay along the biting surface of the teeth.
