Summer Smile Tips

During the summer months, it is easy to fall out of your regular routine. Kids are out of school, and adventures are around every corner. With longer days that turn into long nights, brushing and flossing may not be at the top of your summer bucket list.

Here at Apex Dental, we get it. We know you want to soak up the sun and enjoy the days with your children, but to avoid the post-summer oral hygiene blues, we offer some tips on how to keep everyone’s smiles bright all summer long.

Summer Smile Tips

Steer Clear Of Too Much Sugar

Everyone should enjoy a tasty sweet ice pop or snow cone now and then, but be sure to limit your family’s sugar intake. When the weather is hot it is easy to guzzle down sports drinks, soda-pop and ice cream all in one day. All that sugar adds up and promotes tooth decay.

Water, Water, Water!

Be sure everyone drinks plenty of water. It is good for your teeth and helps you to stay hydrated. Most water is treated with fluoride which helps build strong tooth enamel and may prevent cavity development. Water also helps wash away any food particles that may build up in your teeth.

Try Not To Graze

Snacking is easy in the summer. Especially at BBQs and family parties when food is abundant and at arms reach. Enjoy the summer snacks, but try to limit your grazing. Grazing all day can reduce saliva production and may cause food to become stuck in between your teeth.

Brush Your Teeth!

Be sure you are brushing your teeth twice a day, if not more. Even if you and your kids hit the hay later than normal, it is important to brush for two minutes twice a day. Encourage your whole family to stay on track to avoid complex oral health concerns.
